‘Blaze of glory’: Grape Festival lit up Lodi Lake in 1937
For the 1937 Lodi Grape Festival, volunteers built a replica of ancient Pompeii and the volcano Mt. Vesuvius on the shore of Lodi Lake for an elaborate festival finale. The show featured a parade of illuminated floats depicting Roman life and scenes, and ended with the blazing eruption of the volcano above the Pompeii stage.

The Lodi Grape Festival held 75 years ago was a huge success and wrapped up in "a blaze of glory" finale at Lodi Lake.
"The 1937 grape and wine fete is regarded as the most successful in the history of the Festival and drew thousands of visitors to the city for the featured events," stated The Lodi Times on Sept. 20, 1937.
