Weldon B. Cooke, grandson of Lockeford founder Dr. Dean Jewett Locke, had a short but courageous life.
Like his grandfather before him, Cooke was a pioneer. He came naturally to his courageous and adventuresome spirit. His grandfather crossed the Plains and served as a physician on a wagon train in 1849, mined gold briefly and then developed the town of Lockeford along the Mokelumne River.
