City of Lodi got into Thanksgiving spirit in 1931

Lodi and the rest of the nation were feeling the hard times of the Great Depression in November 1931.

News of that time 80 years ago had inspiring stories of people in Lodi giving to others in need in the community. In November 1931, grammar school teachers pledged $200 to the local Welfare Council to help the needy before winter. People donated to the Red Cross fund to provide milk for school lunches. And a Lodi storeowner set a high example for all when he fed 508 unemployed men and boys on Thanksgiving Day.
