The Lodi public generally sympathizes with the striking telephone operators. That the girls are justified in demanding higher pay is not questioned by any one who knows local conditions. The highest wage paid to experienced operators is $13.50  per week. Several of the local operators have been in the company’s service for many years, yet the highest salaried girl does not receive enough money to decently board and clothe herself.

Twelve dollars per week is the wage asked for beginners, and after two years service they demand $4 per day — certainly not an exorbitant demand.
