Lodi Sentinel founder’s flour mill in 1876
This vintage photograph shows the Lodi Flour Mill, located at the southwest corner of Main and Locust streets, in about 1876. Ralph Ellis owned and operated the business at that time. Ellis was a New Yorker who tried gold mining, then moved on to become a Wells Fargo stage guard, a county clerk, a sheriff in Napa County and a mill operator. He settled in San Joaquin County in 1870. In 1881, with his sons, Ellis founded the Lodi Sentinel.
