Vintage View: A look back at Lodi’s Main Street
Lodi’s Main Street, with an ice cream vendor working out of his decorative wagon, is shown in this photograph taken after 1910. Looking north down Main Street, the city’s new water tower is visible above the buildings along the street. The Cosmopolitan Hotel, which charged 25 cents per night and 25 cents for meals, was used mostly by traveling businessmen and was visible to passengers getting off the train across the street. Main Street was lined on the west side with packing houses and on the east side with mostly Japanese businesses. The street became known as Japantown in the early 1900s.
