1912 saw campaign for doggie drinking fountain

The hot summer a century ago touched off efforts to see to the comfort of man and animal in downtown Lodi.

Earlier, as a move to provide men with an alternative to alcoholic beverages, the Women's Christian Temperance Union installed a drinking fountain at Pine and Sacramento streets. The drinking water may have cooled an adult's parched tongue, but that summer others also were concerned about the animals roaming Lodi's streets.
