Stockton reacts to news of Gettysburg

The terrible Civil War battle at Gettysburg, Pa. raged for three days. It was the bloodiest conflict of the war, with more than 7,000 soldiers killed and 33,000 wounded. It was the turning point of the war for Union forces.

But news from the East traveled slowly to San Joaquin County, 2,700 miles away.
