This is a story of love, attempted murder and forgiveness.
In the autumn of 1913, Mary and Grover Hamilton lived in a home near Lockeford, about seven miles northeast of Lodi. Originally from Indiana, the couple settled here soon after their marriage five years earlier. They had no children, and both worked in packing sheds that grape season in 1913. She was 25, and he was 28.
