Mildred Takaki, of Lodi, celebrated her 100th birthday this month. She was born Nov. 10, 1910 in Hawaii.

Mildred was a mail order bride and after World War II, she went to New York. She was one of the first to open a beauty salon for the Japanese. She had seven shops, one located in Macy's on Fifth Avenue and one in the Trump Towers. She worked into her 80s and moved to Lodi following the events of Sept. 11, 2001.
