Rather than think of foods as good or bad, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the American Dietetic Association) stresses that moderation, portion sizes and exercise are the key components for balancing food and beverage intakes.

This year is the 40th anniversary of National Nutrition Month, and the theme for 2013 — "Eat Right. Your Way. Every Day." — promotes developing a healthy eating plan that incorporates individual food choices. The message emphasizes a balance of food and beverages within your energy needs.
