In the early '90s — when Lodi's reputation for highquality wine grapes was still basically nonexistent — it was big news in the California wine industry when Patrick Campbell began to venture from his prestigious Sonoma Mountain vineyard/estate, called Laurel Glen, to source old Lodi plantings to produce his ideal "drinking" wine, simply called REDS.

Very much conscious of his role in the growth of Lodi as an ultra-premium winegrowing region, Campbell marketed his REDS as something radically different, calling it "a wine of the people."
