Many Lodi wine lovers know and appreciate grapes that visitors to other wine regions are not so familiar with. Grapes like Primitivo, a clonal variation of Zinfandel. Tempranillo and Albariño, the finest wine grapes of Spain, transplanted in Lodi’s Mediterranean terroir with smashing success. Or Verdelho, which originated in Portugal, and makes deliciously light, lemon/lime scented dry whites.

But very, very few students of a vine have heard of Marzemino: a member of the European family of grapes (Vitis vinifera) that is rare even in its native Northern Italy (primarily the Alpine region of Lombardia).
