Jennifer: I have seen Galt residents referred to as “Galtonians” in this newspaper. Can you please provide me with some sort of reference as to why the “o-n-i-a-n-s” is applied? I can understand why Stockton residents are called “Stocktonians,” Sacramento residents are “Sacramentans” and Lodi residents are “Lodians.” But wouldn’t we only be Galtonians if we lived in “Galton”? I have been a Galt resident now since 1999, and was never sure if we were Galtites, Galters, Galtans, Galtians or something else. If we are, indeed, Galtonians, that is fine, but is it possible to confirm this through some reference?
You make a good point, but I wasn’t able to find any reference about where this phrase originally came from or to confirm you are indeed a Galtonian.
