Dear Jennifer: I live in Lodi, but see a doctor in Sacramento County since that's where I work. I went to see him last month and was stunned he was wearing a mask. Since I was too embarrassed to ask why, I thought you might know the answer.

If your doctor is in one of the four major health care networks in the region, Sutter, Kaiser Permanente, Mercy and UC Davis Medical Center, then he is wearing a protective mask likely because he didn't get a flu shot.
