I could not help but think, when reading about the skate park situation and the parents complaining about their kids' fun being spoiled by fines incurred when rules were not kept, that this problem is really a no-brainer. Just obey the few rules, made to insure safety. Whatever the behavior, there are always consequences for good or bad, depending. Excusing people for a minor infraction or two may seem the more charitable way to go - but what does that tell all those who do obey the rules? That rules don't matter at all? The end result of this theory, applied largely, can lead to anarchy. There is too much of that going on in the world as it is.
And, speaking of the world, there are not too many places where the wonderful talent of Luciano Pavarotti was not known and enjoyed. We have lost another operatic star, and right now there are few who can equal him. Thank goodness for the electronics which can preserve his performances for us to enjoy for a long time.
