When Irene Spencer wrote her life's story, she didn't realize it was a best-seller. She wrote her book about living as the wife of a polygamist mainly to document it for family history. She then gave the manuscript to her daughter for safe-keeping.
Now, 16 years later, Spencer's story, "Shattered Dreams: My Life as a Polygamist's Wife," has become a New York Times best seller. Her book was released on Aug. 22, 2007, and by Aug. 25, 2007, it had reached number 10 on the New York Time's non-fiction best seller's list.
