What’s the attraction: Home to the Nevada state capitol, Carson City Nev. sits in the center a highly historic area. Spurred by the big gold boom of the mid-1800s, the city was first known as Eagle Station, a trading post and small ranch of the California Emigrant Trail. Today, it serves as a popular sightseeing stop in the area.
Take a look into the past: Carson City is home to several museums that are available for exploring. The Nevada State Museum and Mint features the historic Carson City Mint with the original coin press and a walk-through mine. Children can learn about the city’s history in a play-based learning environment at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada. The museum features a prented grocery store and Chinese restaurant, a hospital room and bank. Guided tours are offered at the Nevada State Capitol, which features many historical exhibits. One of the finest regional railroad museum’s in the country, the Nevada State Railroad Museum features five steam locomotives and several restored coaches and freight cars.
