What’s the attraction: A historic downtown area in the Sierra foothills, where you can wander in and out of boutiques, restaurants, wine tasting rooms and art galleries.
The wine tasting: Friends and I were recently drawn to Grass Valley for the wine. Throughout downtown, there are several tasting rooms that offer unique wines and sparkling wines. At each tasting room we were greeted with friendly and knowledgeable people who poured our wines. My favorite, though, was Sierra Starr Vineyards, 209 W. Main St. Their tasting room is large and has a display of fun wine-related gifts to browse in between sips. We took home several bottles, with my absolute favorite being the almond sparkling wine (it’s creamy, nutty, almost sweet — and delicious!).
