Roman Tavarez Butler, a sophomore at Jim Elliot Christian High School, was chosen as Teen of the Month for September by the Lodi Youth Commission.

Butler has a 3.86 grade-point average and is involved in the Interact Club and the football and basketball teams. He does community service through Ashley Place, Salvation Army, Pregnancy Resource Center, Walk for Life, feeding the homeless and American Sign Language. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Lodi, where he has coached children's sports camps and taught Vacation Bible School. He has mentored elementary school children at Lodi Christian School and has attended Hume Lake, Sierra Pines and Jenness Park Christian Camps. He is planning to work next summer at Camp Barnabus, a camp for children with disa bilities and life-threatening illnesses. He has been employed by Tavarez Apple Orchards and Mulrooney Auction Company.
