On the outside, it's just a plain-looking fruit. Once cut open, it is both decorative in appearance and sweet to the taste. Now in season, kiwi fruit are used as a decorative touch for many dishes, or are used to sweeten up salads or meats.
According to the California Kiwifruit Commission's Web site, kiwi are almost fully developed by August, but their sugar content reaches acceptable levels, making it ready for harvest in early October or November.
