During the Pioneer Days, before it was time for harvest, many locals would get together for imaginative games and contests to encourage a sense of community and build lasting friendships. Games of skill were often played such as barrel hoop races, the game of Graces, tug-o-war, jump rope and marbles. Ever wanted to test your endurance in a tug-o-war game? Now you can at Sutter’s Fort’s pioneer game event, Hands On History: Planting is Done and Harvest hasn’t started: It’s time for Fun on the Frontier.

You can also try to keep Sutter’s card sharks from pilfering your Sutter bucks in games such as Three-card Monte, Shut the Box and Faro.
