Aloha kakou. The islands are beckoning you with ocean waves, endless sun and culinary delights. The sights, sounds and smells entice you to step away from your daily routine, to enjoy the relaxing side of life while hula dancers, music and stories offer you a glimpse into the Polynesian culture’s rich heritage and traditions.
Unfortunately as wonderful an image as this brings, not all of us can drop everything and head off to the sandy beaches of the Hawaiian Islands. But what we can do is head to the 7th annual George Na’ope Hula Festival and competition. The festival features hula competitions with many different categories including kãne (men), wahine (women), keiki kãne (boys), kaikamahine (girls), makuahini (gracious ladies), kupuna wahine (elder ladies) and kupuna kãne (men). Each competition will be judged and awards will be given during the awards presentation and closing ceremonies.
