What’s the attraction: Landscape painter Francis McComas called Point Lobos “the greatest meeting of land and water in the world.” Hiking on any of the trails along the rocky shores and high cliffs, with stands of towering Monterey pines and short, twisted cypress trees on one side and crashing waves on the other, makes it easy to see why.

Point Lobos features miles of hiking trails — ranging from easy to strenuous and including two that are wheelchair accessible — along the ocean shore. Along the trails are wild irises and seaside daisies, trees draped with lace lichen, mind-bending rock formations, sea birds and incredible views of the ocean. Famous sights like the Lone Cypress and the Veteran Cypress make for excellent photo opportunities.
