From Saturday to Sunday, the cares and details of the 21st century may be swept aside for an old-fashioned Christmas celebration in the heart of Gold Country. This Christmas in Coloma event is an annual family celebration and fundraiser for the Marshall Gold Discovery State Park, and possibly the best way to ring in the holidays that California has to offer.
This annual family celebration, put together by local volunteers, recreates a classic 1850’s country Christmas, complete with 19th century Christmas plays and programs, as well as a visit with an old-fashioned Santa Claus for the children. Some of the activities to be enjoyed at this wonderful event include picking up a freshly made wreath — or making one yourself at a wreath-making booth to decorate your home, learning the arts of corn-husk doll making and rope making from costumed volunteers, and buying beautiful hand-made products and crafts which are perfect for both gifts and your own house, courtesy of vendors who put all of their effort into their crafts and creations.
