Antonia Olivera is steadily learning English, and she has studied for about a year. She practices her speaking skills wherever she goes, and she hones her reading and writing skills during adult literacy sessions at the Lodi Public Library.
Olivera, 49, came to Lodi last April from her native state, Oaxaca, Mexico. Because she lived in a tourist area, she wants to become bilingual so she has a better chance for a job there, possibly as a tour guide. She is also interested in teaching English.
