Visit Preston Castle for a fun, bone-chilling Halloween adventure
The Preston Castle holds a Halloween Haunt that includes a scare tour.

Where: 999 (end of) Palm Drive, Ione.
When: 6:30 to 11 p.m. on Oct. 19 and Oct. 26, and 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. Oct. 20 and Oct. 27.
Cost: $20 for adults, $10 for high school and younger students with ID, and $5 for children not going on the tour.

Considerations: There will be a children’s fair with games and fun activities until 9 p.m. for children not going on the scare tour — children must be accompanied by an adult. There will be a snack bar with hot dogs and other munchies.

Preston Castle, famed to be haunted, was once used as a School of Industry for troubled youth. Although there was little violence on the grounds while in operation, the head housekeeper was murdered and a young a man who attempted escape was shot to death on his third attempt. He was buried on the property along with other young men who died while living within the walls of the castle - most due to diseases.
