What’s the attraction? Learn about the life, work and family of pioneering environmentalist and writer John Muir at this bucolic property just off Highway 4 in Martinez.
Muir roamed the West, writing about the grandeur of wild places, and he was instrumental in the creation of Yosemite National Park. He is revered as a champion of wilderness and a founder of the Sierra Club. He is less known as an inventor (he made a device that tipped him out of bed at a pre-appointed hour) farmer (he took over a huge farm from his wife’s family and made it both highly productive and profitable) or family man (he was married to Louie Strentzel and they had two daughters, Helen and Wanda.)
