Months before he graduated from Galt High School, Chris Schambers heard Sacramento County was offering an emergency medical technician class. Although he went into it thinking it would be an easy “A” to boost his grade-point average, the decision to take the evening course changed his life.

More than 15 years later, he’s now teaching a similar class at the Galt Adult School while balancing a full-time job with Cosumnes Community Services District. He is a joint teacher with another Galt High graduate, Gary Volkman, who works as a Cosumnes paramedic-firefighter.
