Last October, News-Sentinel reporter Danielle Vaughn wrote about a new grocery option called Instacart, which provides a service to hand-pick and deliver items from local stores to your front door. The idea intrigued me, especially for people who can’t get out to shop easily.

Here’s how the on-demand program works: The user sets up an account at www.instacart.com (or gets the mobile app for a smartphone). From there, you follow instructions to choose the store you want and then the items you need. Then an Instacart professional shopper picks and delivers everything at a time convenient for you.
