Ready to take on a mountain? At 2,571 feet, Mount Tamalpais towers above Mill Valley, just north of San Francisco in Marin County. Despite its cosmopolitan setting, however, the mountain’s east peak offers hiking from the relatively flat, paved Verna Dunshee Memorial Trail to the steeper plank trail to the summit, as well as several even more challenging loop trails mapped out by park guides.
But no matter which level of difficulty you choose, you are guaranteed some incredible views. When the Bay Area has one of its foggy days, the clouds spread out below; when it’s clear, you can see all the way to San Francisco.
