In 2010, Maureen Laird began helping plan banquets at Woodbridge Crossings on a part-time basis. She accepted the position without realizing that running banquets would be a full-time job.
Today, she wears many hats in the restaurant, from planning banquets and the specials to helping run the business. She enjoys meeting people and planning the events at the restaurant.

The headlines for this features article is highly misleading. I know most people in the restaurant industry would agree with me that Maureen Laird's duties more resemble those of a "Banquet Manager" or maybe a "Catering Manager."
Having worked over 13 years in the Corporate Meeting & Events industry I know that for the LNS's Pam Bauserman to use the job title "Event Manager" is really a stretch.
If anyone is interested in a career in Event Planning I suggest they visit Meeting Professionals International ( www.mpiweb.org) to lean more. Sacramento State also offers a 10 course Certificate Program that is taught by MPI Members in their field of specialty. These instructors are all experienced professionals who hold the professional designation of a CMP, a Certified Meeting Professional. To earn this CMP designation one must meet the experience requirements and pass a difficult exam.
