What’s the attraction: One of the oldest cities in California, Sonora was incorporated in 1851. It was once one of the bustling Gold Rush towns and was referred to as the “Queen of the Southern Mines.” The town is home to many historic buildings from the late 1800s to the early 1900s including several homes and commercial buildings such as the Sonora Dome, Sonora High School, Tuolumne County Courthouse and the Opera Hall.
Places to shop: Spend the morning browsing the various shops down Washington Street, the main street of town. There are several antique stores to browse such as Antique Den, Antiques Etcetera, Legends and Pine Tree Peddlers. For clothing, jewelry and accessories, there is Backspace or Be Dazzles. If you are looking for gift items, check out BJ’s Cards and Collectibles, Benjamin Fig or Clint’s Trophy Mart. You can also check out Dorothea’s Christmas, which offers Christmas items and collectibles all year-round.
