Gastric bypass procedures for weight loss have become a promising option for people who are obese and have not had success with traditional weight-loss methods such as diet and exercise.

Recent statistics from the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery have reported that 150,000 to 160,000 people undergo bariatric surgery each year. There are several different types of bariatric surgeries used for weight loss. Each procedure affects the gastrointestinal tract in different ways.
