Challenge: The best 18 golf holes around

The following list of the best 18 golf holes in Lodi and the surrounding communities was compiled by the Tokay High School varsity golf team.

Hole 2
Saddle Creek, Par 4, 415 yards
Water guards the entire right side of the fairway. This dogleg right is surrounding by greenside bunkers.

Hole 3
Swenson, Par 4, 435 yards
A huge oak tree blocks your shot into the green making it very difficult.

Hole 4
Saddle Creek, Par 3, 180 yards
Goes downhill nearly 80 feet. Greenside bunkers and an undulated green make the hole very difficult.

Hole 5
Castle Oaks, Par 5, 505 yards
A strategic tee shot is required to reach this dogleg left in two.

Hole 6
Saddle Creek, Par 4, 460 yards
A straight uphill hole with woods on the right and savannah grass on the left makes this a tough driving hole. Big greenside bunkers add to the challenge.

Hole 7
The Reserve at Spanos Park, Par 4, 395 yards
A blind tee shot with water right makes this hole challenging.

Hole 8
Lockeford Springs, 180 yards
Has an extremely undulated greens with mounds of rough surrounding the hole

Hole 9
Stevinson Ranch, Par 4, 437 yards
A dogleg right with savannah grass and water on the right. The narrow landing leads to an undulated green with mounds of rough surrounding the hole.

Hole 10
Dry Creek, Par 5, 535 yards
Two giant oak trees guard the green with limbs that you go over or under them. Par here is a great score.

Hole 11
Manteca, Par 4, 458 yards
Hazard all down the left side, countless trees to the right and a 20-yard wide fairway make this hole extremely difficult.

Hole 12
Diablo Grande Ranch, Par 5, 626 yards
A three wood off the tee, another three wood to carry a huge barranca and then a solid five iron to this double dogglegged hole is a tough one.

Hole 13
La Contenta, Par 3, 160 yards
With the tee box elevated about 130 feet above the green, this is just a fun hole. This hole can also bite you if the wrong club is chosen.

Hole 14
Micke Grove, Par 3, 180 yards
The course’s signature hole. With water left and in front, it’s the green or nothing on this hole.

Hole 15
La Contenta, Par 4, 370 yards
It’s a blind tee shot downhill that requires a flagpole to signify when the group ahead is done. Another fun hole.

Hole 16
Swenson, Par 4, 370 yards
As narrow as it gets, hitting through a “shoot” of trees, this hole requires a precise shot.

Hole 17
Van Buskirk, Par 3, 235 yards
A simple hole, but long that plays into the wind and slightly uphill.

Hole 18
Saddle Creek, Par 5, 545 yards
A downhill tee shot that must be carried at least 225 yards. The fairway is surrounded by savannah grass on the right and bunkers on the left. A great drive and the perfect second shot can easily yield a birdie.
