Background: The inn was built by Dean Jewett Locke, a native of New Hampshire, who settled in the area with his wife. Originally a two-story New England-style cottage, it was rebuilt into a 22-room, three-story, neo-Georgian-style brick house and three-level water tower. Restorations were started in the 1960s by Locke’s grandson, John Thorpe, and his wife, Kathryn Thorpe. After the death of John Thorpe, Richard and Lani Ecklund moved from Alexandria, Va. and complete renovations. The Inn at Locke House Bed and Breakfast was born.
