Favorite place to eat: Wine & Roses (2505 W. Turner Road) because it has great food and atmosphere. It is locally owned.
One thing not to miss: Don’t ever miss the Grape Festival or the Parade of Lights. Old Lodi has a lot of history ... I used to work at the Grape Festival. My uncle was Karl Mauch, a groundskeeper, and he gave me a job cleaning up the fairgrounds.
The Parade of Lights is something new and a great tradition — the beginning of the Christmas season. Downtown is fantastic, homey and friendly. It again represents the real Lodi.
Favorite outing in Lodi: A picnic at Lodi Lake with my family.
Favorite place to browse or shop: Downtown Lodi.
A secret outsiders don’t know: The fine wineries and great dining. There is always a party going on.
One thing you love about Lodi: The location — 11⁄2 to two hours to San Francisco, two hours to skiing in the Sierra Nevada, close to Sacramento and two hours to the beach. And you are always close to home. San Francisco for the plays, the eats and big-city feel, the beach for its great fresh air, open spaces, quiet and serene. It’s my getaway from home. Even though home is great, everyone needs to escape. It makes you appreciate home even more.
