Q: What is your favorite place to eat?

A: I love to eat Downtown because of the ambiance and all of the restaurants. There are always people walking around, so you run into people you know.

Pietro’s Italian Restaurant (317 E. Kettleman Lane) is pretty awesome too. They did such a fantastic job with their remodel. It’s great to see all the gardens around the restaurant, and they have such fresh food and good service. It’s become a Napa-ish kind of place.

Q: What’s one thing not to miss on a tour of Lodi?

A: Wineries. And I think the Downtown area, especially because you have all these wine tasting rooms, lots of shopping and all these restaurants. A great time is during the (Thursday) Farmers Market. We get access to all these vegetables you won’t find at your supermarket, and they are at a state of freshness and ripeness that you won’t find at the grocery store. Lots of friends, food, and entertainment.

Q: Favorite outing in or around Lodi?

A: We like going to Lodi Lake and walking the wilderness areas. You can kayak on the Mokelumne River, and there’s a really pretty hike where there are always little animals. It’s a good way to spend 45 minutes in nature, but you are right in town.

Q: Favorite place to browse or shop?

A: Lodi Cooks (5 N. School St.) and Cheese Central (11 N. School St.). Lodi Cooks has such a good selection of eclectic cooking stuff. I like to find a new cooking thing and apply a new recipe to it. At Cheese Central on a nice Sunday afternoon, she will set you up with a selection of cheese and salami for a picnic.

Q: Why do you like Lodi?

A: It’s a wonderful, warm community. You are going to get a much, much warmer reception than outside of the area, especially when it comes to wineries. We are very supportive of our wineries and our region, so you will get lots of referrals and you will find lots of smiling people.

Q: As a dog lover, where is the best place to take your furry friend?

A: Lots of the wineries are dog-friendly. We have a water bowl out for dogs that come to our tasting room. Most of the wineries will even allow you to bring them into the tasting rooms.

A wonderful walk with a well-behaved dog is about a mile and a half at Heritage Oak Winery, 10112 E. Woodbridge Road. You can walk down to the Mokelumne River and your dog can play in the water. They have a great little beach back there.

Q: Is there something quirky, but cool, about Lodi?

A: The paintings on the sides of the buildings are kind of fun to see, and you can walk around Downtown to and see all the different ones.
