Mexican-style seafood from sibling-run Mariscos Las Islitas

When Lodi restaurant goers think Mexican food, visions of cheesy burritos and heavy gravies likely dance in their heads. But Armando Rodriguez, who runs Mariscos Las Islitas on Cherokee Lane with his sister Alma Vicenty, sees something different.

His restaurant, whose name translates to “Seafood from the Islands,” is all about seafood done in a Mexican style. It’s one several similar eateries owned by family members throughout California and the United States. His parents, Alma and Ernesto Rodriguez, own a Las Islitas in Sacramento. That’s where Rodriguez and Vicenty learned the ins-and-outs of the business and built a deep love for their family’s food heritage.
