CALAVERAS COUNTY — A high speed chase originating in Calaveras County Thursday night made its way through Lodi and Stockton before coming to an end.
Calaveras County deputies saw a motorcycle making unsafe lane changes and traveling at speeds higher than 75 miles per hour at around 10:50 p.m. on Thursday, Calaveras sheriff’s deputies said. The motorcycle was also crossing a double divided highway, they said.
Deputies attempted to stop the motorcyclist for vehicle violations near Pattison Road and South Camanche Parkway in Burson, but the motorcyclist sped up to try to flee. The ensuing pursuit traveled down South Camanche Parkway to Highway 12. The driver continued through stop signs and passed vehicles at unsafe speeds, deputies said.
When the pursuit reached San Joaquin County, other agencies took over and involved three Calaveras County Sheriff’s deputies, six CHP officers and a CHP helicopter. The pursuit covered a distance of 70 miles traveling through Lodi and Stockton until the driver was finally apprehended.
The driver was identified as 50-year-old William Pauley of Lodi.
Pauley was arrested by CHP on suspicion of evading police with disregard for public safety, driving with a suspended license for a previous DUI conviction, crossing over double yellow lines, driving at excessive speeds and driving without the proper motorcycle endorsement. Pauley was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail.
