Boys basketball: Hawks beat Cougars

Deandre Stallings had 28 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Liberty Ranch Hawks varsity boys basketball team in a 77-58 win over the El Dorado Cougars of Placerville in the Woodland Tournament on Saturday.

Galt City Council to decide on changing mayoral term limit

If the Galt City Council decides to alter an internal procedural guideline tonight, new Mayor Mark Crews will serve in the top position for just one year instead of the typical two.

Galt school boards choose new presidents

The Galt Joint Union Elementary School District board of trustees chose John Gordon as its president at the annual reorganizational meeting Wednesday. He has twice previously held the largely ceremonial position.

Marijuana ordinance before Galt Planning Commission tonight

Some residents would like to see the city of Galt ban growing marijuana within city limits, even if it’s for medicinal purposes. The process to create an ordinance to do just that will begin at tonight’s regular Galt Planning Commission meeting.

Galt Market rolls out new electronic payment system for produce

Fresh fruit and vegetable buyers were able to use their CalFresh/Electronic Benefit Transfer payment cards at the Galt Market for the first time Tuesday. About half the vendors are participating in the new program.

Mark Crews selected as Galt mayor; Barbara Payne as vice mayor

Galt City Councilman Mark Crews was unanimously chosen Tuesday by his peers to serve as mayor for the next two years. He succeeds fellow Councilwoman Marylou Powers, who has held the position since 2012.

Boys basketball: Hawks down Flames in annual Foundation Game

Jared Wall led the Lodi Flames varsity boys basketball team with 20 points but it wasn’t enough to overcome 40 successful free throws by the Liberty Ranch Hawks, who beat the Flames 92-85 in the annual Foundation Game in Galt on Monday.

Galt police believe missing woman may be visiting her sister

Janice Lea Porter, 59, who was reported missing Nov. 25, probably bought a $4 ticket and took a bus to see her sister in Sacramento, Lt. Brian Kalinowski of the Galt Police Department said.

Galt Police Department dispatchers, clerks could get raise under new contract

Galt shuts down Royal Delta Inn due to safety violations

Because the owners failed to complete a list of 19 emergency repairs, the Royal Delta Inn will be shuttered, officials said — but not before its residents have been relocated with the help of the city of Galt and Sacramento County housing officials. In the meantime, they can remain in their units.
