General Mills, Inc.: The company, which employs roughly 500 people locally, is looking to purchase more eggs produced by cage-free hens, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, a daily newspaper in Minnesota. General Mills announced it would buy 1 million of the eggs in the 2011 fiscal year. Cage-free eggs are used in such General Mills items as Haagen-Dazs ice cream. The move was applauded by the Humane Society of the United States.
