Local growers say ‘help wanted’ this season

Between picking cherries in the surrounding orchards and maintaining vast acres of grapevines, Lodi growers need a lot of man-power this time of year. But many are saying they don’t have enough.

Brad Goehring, owner of farm labor contracting business Goehring Vineyards, said growers are in a severe labor shortage for the first time in his career. Field crews are about 40 percent short on workers. That makes for a hard choice of which vineyards get work crews on time and which don’t.
