Last Friday I went to have my monthly blood work done. It was Furlough Fridayso Kaiser had a packed house. Not bad tho...half hour later I was hitting 99 on my way to Lodi.

My numbers are disappointing. The total and bad (LDL) cholesterol shot back up but they are still slightly down from the original tests. My good cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides are under control but my glucose was holdingabove the healthy range. The beauty of Kaiser is that you can email your doctor and get answers. The additional beauty of my doctor in particular is that he works Saturdays. By Saturday afternoon, I had his take on what the numbers might mean. I asked him at what point we look at meds to control my cholesterol. He said a healthy weight for my height was 130 to 159 and that when (when? you gotta love this guy's faith in me) I get to the lower end of my healthy weight, if the cholesterol is still a problem, he would suggest a statin. Considering I haven't weighed 130 since I was 17 and my goal is 150, we may never know if I can solve this issue with diet and exercise, but I'm giving it my best shot.

Sometime back there was a commercial for a statin that suggested heritage could have as much influence on cholesterol as lifestyle. In the commercial they had a pot roast dressed up like your Auntie Violet and your Uncle Arnie looked kind of like a hot dog. I used to try to figure out what food I would look like. I guess a rack of lamb is out (ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha). I'm thinking along the lines of a muffin for obvious reasons.

So here are my numbers. I'm choosing to celebrate the 7 pound loss and the 1 grandson gain...

Total cholesterolwas 272. Target is less than 200 Now...261. Down 11 points

LDL (bad) cholesterol was 186. Target is less than 100 Now...184. Down 2 points

Glucose was 105. Target is 60-99. Now...107.Same but Doc isn't worried

Weight was 183. Target is 150. Now...176. Down7 pounds

Grandbaby was 0. Target was 1. Now...One. Abeautiful baby, Max
