Chicago 09 training starts

Monday marks the kick-off of “Layla’s Marathon Training for Chicago 09.” As I write this, the marathon is 114 days away. No, of course I’m not obsessing at all. Doesn’t everyone find a Firefox add-on to install a countdown clock on their home computer?

So far, I’m feeling good, though I will still worry about injuries until I get to the very end of the 26.2 miles on Oct. 11. Last weekend had me a bit worried because I ran a relay in Lake Tahoe (still need to post about that and get the photos off my camera) and had a leg with a lot of steep downhills. That can really stress out the knees, and mine has only just finally gotten back to normal. But though I did feel it about five miles into my run, and my knee was sore after I was done, within a couple hours it was back to being OK.

That was Saturday. Monday evening was short and slow because I was SORE. On Tuesday night I ran much faster than I had intended, thanks to some people in my running club. (”Come on, we can catch Janine,” said one of the club’s Steves. Yeah, right.) But I felt great afterward. This morning was a good run. So hopefully things will be OK for the next 16 weeks. Please?

Day 1 of training is in the bag. Of course, though, I woke up with an ankle not feeling quite right. But it wasn’t bad enough to take today off, so I made sure I took this morning’s run easy.

No, I’m not going to keep commenting on my own blog entries about my daily runs. I really should start a separate running blog, huh?
