Way beyond Zinfandel

You’ve still got until Thursday night to get $35 advance tickets (vs. $45 at the door) for this Saturday’s ZinFest at Lodi Lake from noon to 7 p.m.

Though the name sounds like you’ll be drinking Zinfandel all day, there is so much more going on. Even non-wine-drinking friends ($10 each admission!) would have a good time munching gourmet treats while listening to a number of live bands.

You wine lovers will get to sample almost every wine made in Lodi – not only Zinfandel – some from wineries that aren’t normally open to the public.

Just the ZinFest Wine & Cooking School is worth the price of admission. One of my little secrets to writing good tasting notes is the “Aroma Wheel,” that breaks down similar wine aromas, like blackberry, raspberry and currant fruits, and displays them like spokes on a wheel. Learn all about it from Certified Wine Specialist Margo Treweek from 1:30 to 2 p.m.

Then, of course, there’s the great food from about thirteen local restaurants, including some of the best BBQ houses around: beef & chicken kabobs, smoked ribs, Applewood smoked tri-tip, and BBQ beef with Zinfandel wine BBQ sauce. My mouth is watering even now!
