The Week That Was

Each Sunday, we will be doing a quick wrap-up of the big prep sports happenings from the past week. Here is the first sampling:

  • On Monday, Tokay and Lodi High helped kick off the volleyball season with an exciting match in the annual Sac-Joaquin Section Foundation Game. The atmosphere at The Jungle had an electric feel to it – first and last MGMT pun, promise – and one almost couldn’t tell it was an exhibition match. Lodi High prevailed in four sets, jumping out 2-0 and then rallying in the final frame. The two teams face off again on Sept. 18, this time at The Inferno. Safe to say it should be a good one.
  • Girls golf season also started, with Lodi’s club looking great so far. The Lady Flames enter the fall primed for a run to State.

And there was a lot of action on – and off – the gridiron during Week One:  

  • Tokay continued its impressive start to the season, improving to 2-0 with a second straight home rout – this time of El Dorado.
  • David Simon and the Lodi Flames hung with Sheldon for about three quarters before fading late on the road in their season opener.
  • Perhaps the biggest news came from Galt High, which saw its reclamation project under J.J. Woodward hit a roadblock when the Warriors forfeited Friday’s game against Argonaut. Injuries from Galt's season opener shrank Woodward's already-thin roster down to 13, forcing the coach and Athletic Director Alejo Padilla to make the call in the interest of player safety. Per the Sac Bee, which talked to a section official, it was Galt’s first-ever forfeit in the program’s 89-year history.

  • 8 Share what you know, and ask about what you don't.
  • 9 Don’t be a troll.
  • 10 Don’t reveal personal information about other commenters. You may reveal your own personal information, but we advise you not to do so.
