Save energy and always boil foods with the lid on. When the lid is off, the heat escapes and cooking takes twice as long. Pasta takes eight to 12 minutes without a lid and five to nine minutes with a lid. For more information, visit http://www.frugalvillage.com/2012/06/03/make-saving-money-a-game/.

For another way to clean baseboards, use a dryer sheet. The dryer sheet not only takes the dust off but coats as it cleans. Just attach it to a swiffer and go along the baseboard. For more information, visit http://www.clippergirl.com/todays-thrifty-tip-keep-baseboards-cleaner-with-fabric-sheets.

Rather than throw out those old silk flowers and garlands, try updating their look. Spray paint faded silk geraniums red and tuck them into a flower box with real flowers. You can use silver or gold for many styles of decorating or black to decorate for Halloween. While you’re at it, you can spray paint those old vases too.
