If your child has an Easy Bake Oven, then you know how expensive those cake and frosting mixes are. Here is a recipe to make your own cake mix.
1 cup sugar
3 tablespoons cocoa
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
In a medium bowl, combine sugar, cocoa, flour, baking soda and salt. Stir until blended. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles corn meal. Store in an airtight container and use within 12 weeks. It makes 11 cakes. When it’s time to use the oven, mix 1/3 cup of the cake mix and five to six teaspoons of water and then follow the instructions on the oven.
