The end of the year is coming, which means trashing the old calendars. Or, not. There are many creative ways to use the old photos on the calendars. Try cutting them up for puzzles for young children. Just add card stock to the back to make them more sturdy. You can cut and laminate them to use as a bookmark. Also, try to cut the calendar images to use as gift tags for special occasions. For more calendar usues, visit http://www.frugalvillage.com/2012/05/27/reuse-your-old-calendars/.

If you’re in the mood for a fall treat but short on ingredients, try this two ingredient brownie recipe. All you need is a box of brownie mix and a 15-ounce can of pumpkin. Mix both together, pour into a pan and bake until firm, about 45 minutes. Brownies will have just a hint of pumpkin taste. For a taste of that San Francisco treat without the grocery price, make your own Rice-a-roni. First, break up pasta into small pieces. In a medium skillet, saute broken pasta pieces in margarine. Once it begins to brown, stir in rice and cook two minutes more. Dissolve chicken bouillon in broth and pour it in with the rice. Stir in spices. Bring to a boil and then turn to low and cover and simmer 15 minutes. For the full recipe, visit http://countrifiedhicks.blogspot.com/2012/05/homemade-rice-roni-recipe.html.
